Inscriptions from two of the bibles donated by a Christian organization in Gloucester and presented to each of the volunteers who took part in the attempted rescue and subsequent recovery of the bodies after the Pelsall Hall Colliery Mine Disaster of 1872.
Left is a picture of the front cover of one of the bibles.
Centre inscription reads:- This bible was presented to Thomas Starkey by a few Christian Friends in Gloucester as a memorial of his ernest and self denying labours in trying to rescue the 22 unfortunate miners who lost their lives at the fatal accident at the Pelsall Hall Colliery.
Right inscription reads:- This bible was presented to Benjamin Walker by a few Christian Friends in Gloucester as a memorial of his ernest and self denying labours in trying to rescue the 22 unfortunate miners who lost their lives at the fatal accident at the Pelsall Hall Colliery.
The Presentation Date is recorded as 2nd December 1872.
