Thousands Line the Streets For
Pelsall Carnival Saturday 7th July 2007
After three weeks of rain the sun came out for our village’s biggest annual event, Pelsall Carnival. Thousands turned out to support the crowning of the Carnival Queen, Princesses and Rosebuds and to cheer on the colourful floats and bands.
The event, organised by Pelsall Carnival Committee, guarantees the village a great day’s entertainment and every year attracts thousands of people from around the Black Country and further afield. Showing great community spirit, the whole village gets involved, with shops, groups and schools coming together to create one of the best village carnivals in the Midlands.
Things kicked off at 7.30am with the famous Pelsall Car Boot Sale where locals trade their wares.
Carnival Queen
The Carnival was officially opened at 1pm in the Memorial Gardens and this year’s guest was our local neighbourhood beat team officer, Sergeant Kelvin Rowlands. His first, very pleasant duty was to crown our Carnival Queen, 17-year-old Suzanne Peakman, along with her Maids of honour Laura Townsend (16) and Kathryn Cox (17) and Carnival Princess Melissa Cheal (14) and Rosebuds Natalie Stone (10) and Charlotte Naylor (10). Having proclaimed our Carnival open, Sgt Rowlands then led the carnival procession through Pelsall’s streets, lined with thousands of cheering people.
Throughout the day the main arena hosted various activities and displays, plus there were competitions and displays in the main marquee.
Pat Collins Funfair
Of course, the carnival wouldn’t be complete without the excitement of the Pat Collins funfair, which has thrilled generations of Pelsall folk.
Pelsall Carnival dates back to the early 1900s and has run continuously since 1972. The carnival continues to flourish every year and local charities benefit from the proceeds. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Neil Cross, Ian Rhydderch and their team of dedicated volunteers for once again ensuring a highly successful and enjoyable event.
