The Nest Common Spectre
This strange experience took place about 1978 and is related as follows:-
'One evening about dusk I went out for a stroll, walking through Carrick Close and down the gulley onto The Nest Common. As I headed across the common towards Wood Lane a figure suddenly appeared out of nowhere about 20 yards in front of me. It appeared to be a man in a cloak and he was walking across the common at a very quick pace heading in the direction of the Iron Bridge. It was as if the figure was totally unaware of my presence . He continued in the direction of the Iron Bridge for a few seconds and then completeley disappeared into thin air. Startled and shocked I headed back, on arriving home my wife asked "What's wrong with you ?, you look as if you've just seen a ghost" to which I replied "I just have !"
I have walked the same area many times since but I have never seen the spectre again.'
